ISU 2021 March On! Philanthropy Award – Sandy Senior-Dauer and Keith Dauer

An eagerness to share their love of exploration led ISU alumna Sandy Senior-Dauer and her husband, Keith Dauer to establish an endowed scholarship at Indiana State. Their $250,000 gift created the Sandy Senior-Dauer and Keith Dauer Department of History Study-Abroad Scholars to support students and faculty in the Department of History. The endowment will provide support for both academic and cultural learning experiences through travel.

Kamae Sutton

Kamae Necole Sutton is the owner and operator of K. Necole Unitz LLC based in metro Atlanta, Georgia. Kamae is a 2019 graduate of Indiana State University, where she earned a B.S. in African and African American Studies. During her time at ISU, Kamae tapped into her passions for service and humanity, specifically focusing on under-represented and underserved communities. She is a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and a legacy alumna of ISU, having followed in her parents’ footsteps. Kamae discovered a gift and talent for designing and creating custom wig units during her senior year of college. After first working as a member of the Supplier Diversity and Diversity and Inclusion Teams for WestRock, Kamae then struck out on her own to pursue her dream of becoming a business owner, and now has clientele all around the world.

Verlain Betofe

Verlain Betofe is the founder and CEO of Team Makasi in San Diego, California, where he also serves as Assistant Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Kearny High School. Reflecting on the lack of good role models he had growing up in southeast San Diego, Verlain “always dreamed of being someone people looked up to for the right reasons, and someone who could make an impact in people’s lives.” Believing in the transformative power of knowledge, a work ethic, and the right support system, Verlain started Team Makasi as a way to give back to the community by helping student-athletes find paths to a college education while playing the sports they love.

Tammy Ayer

Tammy Ayer is the Features/Reader Engagement Editor for the Yakima Herald-Republic in Yakima, Washington, where she has worked since 2015. A native of Indianapolis, Tammy graduated from Terre Haute North Vigo High School and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from ISU in 1989, returning to earn her Master’s in History in 2003. She has worked for The Brazil Times in Brazil, Indiana, the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, and The Fort Myers (Florida) News-Press. Drawing a connection between her fields of study, Ayer views history as an integral part of telling people's stories, especially in placing events in their proper context. She is also keenly aware of the importance of recounting today's stories as accurately as possible, since future historians may well depend on her coverage

Weston Bohall

Having grown up in Terre Haute and Columbus, Wes Bohall served as a Residential Assistant, Student Senator, Dobbs Park Native American Museum intern, writer for the Indiana Statesman, and Vice President, Social Chair, Risk Manager, and IFC Representative for Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, and founder of two businesses while earning his degree in History at ISU. A proud member of Phi Alpha Theta (Honor Society for History) and the University’s Honors Program, he also studied abroad for a semester in Rome. After graduating, he earned his Juris Doctorate (JD) from Valparaiso University and his Masters (LL.M.) of Taxation at the University of Denver. Wes presently works as a managing tax attorney at Platt Park Tax, where he litigates tax issues in U.S. Tax Court, Federal District Court, and U.S. Court of Claims, and provides tax advice on technical transactions involving exempt organizations, partnerships, corporations, and changes in accounting methods.

Cedric Cook

Although he now thinks of Seattle as his hometown, most of Cedric Cook’s formative years were spent in Vigo County, Indiana. As a History major at ISU, he had the opportunity to work as an Instructor’s Assistant, helping new Freshmen adjust to the rigors of college-level classes. He was also especially active with Take Back the Night and the Men's Club Soccer team, and enjoyed an impactful semester studying abroad at Griffith University in Australia. After graduating, he moved to the west coast, and soon found an account management role at Kotis Design, a boutique marketing company. Cedric stayed with the company for six years, before relocating to Portland, Oregon, where he now works for Zapproved, a SaaS start-up that provides litigation software to some of the largest companies in the world.

Wesley Bishop

Wesley Bishop is a PhD candidate in American history at Purdue University, where he studies US political and intellectual history. He is an organizer with the Purdue Social Justice Coalition, and was the 2012-2014 Debs Fellow at Indiana State University.

Morgan Brown

A native of Terre Haute, Morgan Brown comes from a long line of Indiana State graduates, many of whom were public school teachers. As an undergraduate, she participated in the Honors Program, Disney College Program, and Study Abroad, all while maintaining an off-campus job. After graduation, Morgan subsequently earned her Master’s in History at ISU. She is currently the Administrative Assistant for the Faculty Senate, with plans to pursue a career in higher education administration.

Jason Collins

Jason Collins, who earned his MA in History from ISU, has made a career with the National Park Service.

Caleb Fleschner

Caleb Fleschner graduated from West Vigo High School in 2009 and graduated cum laude from Indiana State University in 2012 with a Bachelor’s degree in History. In 2016, he earned his J.D. from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. While in law school, he worked in the School’s Disability Clinic, where he interviewed, counseled, and represented low-income persons with disabilities. He currently practices law at the firm of Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos, and Newlin, where he focuses on personal injury, general civil litigation, and alternative dispute resolution. He also serves as pro-tem judge for Vigo County Division 4 Court.

Kendra McCrea-Bailey

Kendra McCrea-Bailey graduated from Indiana State University in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in History and a Minor in dance. She began working in the Special Collections department at Cunningham Memorial Library in July 2015, and specializes in the Rare Books and Manuscripts section. Currently she is the main cataloger of rare books and trains student employees in rare book and copy cataloging. She also assists in the curation and preparation of exhibits.

Brooke Truax

Brooke Truax graduated magna cum laude from Indiana State University in 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. She currently works as a Program Coordinator at the Owen County Public Library in Spencer, Indiana and creates & hosts library programs for all ages. Ms. Truax enjoys creating new (and refining old) programs to further develop community engagement via the local library, and also has her own photography business
